How Modern Hydraulics Have Made Mini Excavators the Most Versatile and Cost Effective Hire Option for Construction Projects

Developments and technological advancements within the realm of heavy machines such as excavators have indeed come a very long way. In general, it can be said that any given construction project, regardless if it is just a small home improvement project requiring a 2T excavator or a large mega project that requires a standard or larger excavator weighing at 30T, an excavator will make a world of difference.

Excavators are considered as the workhorses of the entire construction industry which is among the primary reason as to why heavy machine rental companies carry a range of excavators that range from 30 tonne excavators to mini excavators for hire.

The frequency of hires for excavators are significantly higher than the hiring of other heavy machines such as skid steers, dumpers, dozers, backhoes and compactors and for good reason. The reason behind the higher frequency of excavator hires is attributed to the versatility of these machines as an excavator can be used to perform the tasks of most other heavy machines provided the right hydraulic attachment tool is available.

For example a mini excavator could be assigned for the entirety of a home improvement or landscaping project as the excavator would be able to dig, clear, move materials and debris, compact, drill, crush and even compact ground with the right attachment tool. Most excavators these days come with what is known as a hydraulic coupling link which could be considered a huge stride within the advancement of hydraulic technology.

A hydraulic coupling in essence is a mechanism that is capable of transmitting rotational mechanical force between two shafts by using a fluid medium. Some may refer to this mechanism as a fluid coupling and it is deemed as the better alternative to mechanical clutches as the fluid mechanism eliminates friction which causes energy loss.

The transfer of torque is smoother as mechanical energy is transferred into fluid energy and back again. Hydraulic tools for excavators are also generally available from construction equipment rental companies for hire and the cost of hire for these tools vary depending on the type of tool.

Most mini excavators come with this hydraulic coupling feature which enables a single mini excavator to take on home improvement projects that require digging, clearing, demolishing or even compacting earth. Due to this versatility of mini excavators and the advancements in hydraulics, excavators generally enhance the productivity level of projects significantly without increasing cost.

As a matter of fact, using a mini excavator for a home improvement or landscaping project would reduce the cost of the project as the cost of hiring raw or manual labour is few times higher compared to taking a mini excavator for hire. It is not only cheaper to hire a small excavator, but excavators are also able to perform tasks much more efficiently and effectively which again translates to cost savings.

In summary, mini excavators with the right type of hydraulic attachment tool are capable of handling just about any kind of task especially in project sites where ‘working space’ is an issue.
